Acer G226HQL Review: Budget Everyday Monitor

$
0
0

The Acer G226HQL is one of the most affordable Full HD 1080p monitors, making it an ideal option for those with a tight budget. The modern and attractive slim design with narrow bezels makes the monitor look more expensive as the picture pops out. As expected at this price point, the monitor doesn't offer any extra, fancy features but several common ones, which is acceptable as the crisp 1080p image quality is more than satisfactory.

The TN panel of the Acer G226HQLBbd PC monitor delivers a quick 5ms response time which is enough to eliminate ghosting of fast moving objects in the everyday use of the computer and even in some fast-paced video games. Although modern TN panels are capable of 1ms response time, at this price point 5ms is plenty, and the difference between the two is barely noticeable.

One of the drawbacks of the TN panel monitors are the viewing angles. The Acer G226HQL 1080p screen has 160-degree viewing angles both horizontal and vertical meaning that if you wish to watch the monitor at a different angle, you will have to tilt the screen to the appropriate angle in order to enjoy the picture in which the colors don't lose their tint.

The static contrast of the Acer G226HQL amounts to 600:1 which is lesser than the usual; however, it boasts 100,000,000:1 of dynamic contrast ratio which offers a superior relation between the darkest and the brightest color tones. The dynamic contrast ratio, or the Acer Adaptive Contrast Management (ACM) can be manually activated and disabled in the OSD menu.

The Acer G22HQL is the most affordable monitor that offers you the ability to view Full HD digital movies as well as to enjoy responsive, high-quality 1080p gaming. The sleek and slim-bezel design make it appear much more expensive while the X-shaped base will allure the Star Wars fanatics. The mentioned attributes are more than enough at this price point. In addition to that, the stunning contrast ratio makes up for the inferior static contrast ratio and allows you to enjoy well-optimized picture presets which can be easily toggled via the monitor's hotkey. All of that, under $100!

HP Pavilion 25xw Review: Bezel-less IPS Monitor

Gamers and office users alike will enjoy the great value of the HP Pavilion 25xw, with its high-quality IPS display and its ability to connect by HDMI cable to a variety of gaming consoles as well as every type of computer. Hewlett Packard’s modernistic WEDGE stand design combines with a lack of bezel framing to give this monitor a unique and classy look on any desk. If you are satisfied with the pre-set features and do not feel a need to adjust or customize your settings, this monitor operates wonderfully within the parameters of its limited programmability.

The LED screen gives almost no bleeding of color around the edges. Its brightness permits it to offer clear and crisp images even in a sunny or brightly lit room. With a fairly quick response time of 7ms, along with a 60 Hertz refresh rate, gamers and movie watchers can enjoy high picture quality without any image tearing or ghosting, and with the V-sync engaged, you can avoid frame shuddering and flickering.

With its bezel-less frame, the screen feels like an HDTV screen rather than feeling like a desktop computer monitor. The response time of 7ms, fast moving scenes are adequately portrayed, although gamers might note some minor amount of blurring in the images and action of their games. Even the smallest of fonts are well formed and easily read on this HP screen, and the high definition content is highly detailed and crisp in appearance.

The monitor was tried out with the 64-step Grayscale test offered by DisplayMate, resulting in findings that this screen can display every one of the 64 shades of gray. The very darkest shade of should have been someone darker, but it was still distinguishable from the others. This minor glitch results in a small amount of detail loss in the test photo, but even most black and white photographers would still find this level of grayscale serviceable.

As with most monitors with IPS (In-Plane Switching) technology, this model provides a wide angle of viewing, giving optimal vantage points across the viewing range. Even when two people share the screen for gaming or shared viewing, the view is equally high quality regardless of where each user sits. All in all, the HP Pavilion 25xw PC monitor can be considered a strong performer. The color display is uniformly saturated evenly across the screen and holds its integrity when viewed from a wide range of angles by viewers in different positions.

The HP Pavilion 25xw PC display is an excellent candidate for multiple uses, due to the combination of high-quality visuals and relatively low price tag. For non-professional video editing or photography use, the display features of this monitor are more than adequate. The monitor itself is sturdy and sleek to look at, adding a touch of classy style to an office even when the screen is turned off. If you don’t need a display port or USB connectivity, this is among the best choices of screens for its price range.

Allow me to introduce the LG 38UC99-W to you, the monitor that has it all - a giant 38-inch curved screen with a subtle curvature, FreeSync technology, vibrant image quality of its IPS panel, 1ms Motion Blur Reduction feature, Bluetooth speakers, and a ton of more awesome features. Although a bit pricey, this monitor delivers what it promises and lacks absolutely nothing but a higher refresh rate but since the monitor's not primarily aimed at gamers, it's fair not to hold it against it. Nonetheless, with its plethora of game-enhancing features, the LG 38UC99 display is actually a great gaming monitor as well.

I depend on my computer for a variety of tasks such as editing photos, watching HD movies from DVDs, playing games, view YouTube professional videos and create several documents using MS Office. Due to these diverse tasks, I always choose a monitor that can help in delivering all of them without any issue. Believe me; after choosing the ASUS VE247H monitor, I never had a single complaint in terms of performance. For my above-mentioned uses, this monitor ranks much higher than I expected. I agree that I am not as picky as a few consumers are but this monitor is a solid second monitor. This is also for the hardcore gamers who play almost every day with friends. I can say so, as my best friend is one of those players and praises this monitor for doing a perfect job for console gaming and media streaming.

AOC AGON AG272FCX Preview: Curved 144Hz FreeSync Gaming Monitor

In addition to the AOC AGON AG322QCX gaming monitor, AOC will also release a smaller version of it, the AOC AGON AG272FCX. Both monitors will be available in May 2017. The only difference between the two lies in the screen size and the resolution. The AOC AG272FCX features Full HD resolution, a 27-inch screen, 144Hz refresh rate, FreeSync, and extensive ergonomic options as well as numerous exclusive gaming features.

As it's the case with most of the curved gaming monitors, the AOC AG272FCX will feature a VA panel which ensures the flawless 178-degree viewing angles, a superior contrast ratio for incredibly deep black tones, and an overall vibrant image quality with accurate colors which cover 100% of the sRGB gamut. Moreover, the panel allows for the maximum response time speed of 4ms response time which is viable for next-to-none blurring in the fast-paced video games. The curvature is only 1800mm, although it's still enough for an improved immersive gameplay experience.

Not only will the gaming experience be immersive with a stunning image quality, it will offer a buttery smooth performance due to the 144Hz refresh rate and FreeSync. The latter can significantly enhance the performance in video games, but only if you have a FreeSync compatible AMD graphics card. If you do or plan to get one, you can gain a synchronized frame rate between the AOC AG272FCX and your GPU which will, as a result, eliminate screen tearing, stuttering, and input lag. You will still be able to use the monitor if you have a Nvidia graphics card, but you won't be able to gain the dynamic refresh rate.

The AOC AG272FCX will have all the exclusive features from the AGON series which includes the AOC Shadow Control, Low Input Lag Mode, and customizable gaming modes. The shadow control feature offers increased visibility in the dark scenes of the video games by brightening up the screen when it's needed while the low input lag further decreases the input lag for the most responsive gameplay. Depending on the genre of the game that you're playing, you can use the already calibrated picture settings for difference scenarios such as Racing, FTS, and RTS, or you can make your own.

ASUS VX228H Review: Budget Full HD Monitor

There are many casual gamers like me who are fine with a 21.5-inch gaming monitor surprisingly offering a wide view and fluid display. Gaming is all about the fast display speed, which is essential for fluid pictures during the fast, on-screen motion. To enjoy this pace, the ASUS VX228H offers the impeccable response time speed. While searching for gaming monitors in the 21 to the 22-inch collection, I found that just a handful of models are offering a response time speed of only 1ms. Thus, for me, a genuinely good response time became the critical factor. Obviously, I was looking for a model with 1ms response time, as it is the best specification required for keeping ghosting or shadowing of quick actions away.

Philips has announced yet another monitor aimed at professional and aspiring designers, the Philips 276E8FJAB. It very much resembles the previous monitor announced by Philips, the Philips 278E8QJAB, which we've found to have only a single drawback, the rather low 1080p resolution for a monitor of such size. The Philips 276E8FJAB PC monitor, however, features the 1440p QHD resolution, among other things, but doesn't feature the slight curvature as its counterpart from the Philips E-Line series of the ultra-wide color gamut monitors. It does offer an awesome design though as well as many exclusive features.
